terms

The short version. Solera is a diary that lives on your phone. You may use it, on as many of your own devices as you like. What you write in it is yours and we never see it. Nobody promises it is perfect, and when you have had enough of it you delete it and nothing is left behind.
The rest of this page says the same at the length the stores and the law ask for.
Agreeing to this
Solera is published by HORIS INTERNATIONAL LIMITED, which appears on Google Play under the developer name Alps project. “We” on this page means that company. This is the agreement between you and us about using the app.
Installing or using Solera means you accept it, and the privacy policy along with it. If you would rather not, do not install it — and if you already have, delete it.
Who it is for
Solera is a diary about wine and is listed for adults. Use it only if you are old enough to drink where you live, and only if you are able to enter into an agreement like this one there.
It keeps no streak, awards nothing for drinking more, and counts nothing towards a goal. It would rather you drank less and better.
What you are given
A personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use Solera on Android devices that you own or control, as the Google Play Terms of Service allow — which includes your household, through Google Play Family Library.
The app is licensed, not sold. The name Solera, the drawings, the way it looks and the code behind it are ours, and everything not given to you here stays with us or with whoever licensed it to us. Solera is built partly on open-source components; each carries its own licence, and where one of those licences says something different from this page, that licence wins for that component.
What you write in it stays yours
Your bottles, your ratings, your notes and your photographs are yours. We claim nothing in them, and we could not use them if we wanted to: they never leave your phone. The privacy policy says exactly that in detail.
Which also makes it yours to look after. If you name a friend in a note, that is a real person on your phone, and keeping it or deleting it is your call. And because there is no copy anywhere else, we cannot recover anything for you — not a bottle you deleted, not a diary that went with a lost phone. There is a way to write the whole thing to a file, and it exists for exactly this reason.
What it costs
Solera is free to download and free to use for the first five bottles on your shelf. Every feature works on those five; nothing is a demonstration version. Bottles you have added but not yet opened are not on the shelf and are not counted.
Beyond five bottles, Solera is bought once, inside the app, for a single price. That one purchase is the whole app, and it does not expire: no subscription, no second tier, and nothing else in the app is for sale. Nothing here runs on a server, so there is no monthly bill of ours to pass on to you.
Two things behave differently before that purchase, and we would rather say so here than have you discover it: a sixth bottle cannot be added to the shelf, and a bottle already on the shelf cannot be deleted. Everything you have added remains yours either way — it can be read in the app and written out to a file at any time, bought or not.
Google sells it. Google takes the payment, charges the tax, issues the receipt and handles refunds, under Google Play’s own terms — we never see your name or your card. The price differs by country and currency, and we may change it. Because the purchase belongs to your Google Account, you may install Solera again on your devices at no further charge; the app asks Google at each start and restores it on its own. Nothing on this page takes away a refund or a consumer right the law gives you where you live — and if Google’s own refund window has closed, write to us and ask.
What you agree not to do
- sell it, rent it, sublicense it, or pass it on as your own;
- take it apart, decompile it or reverse engineer it, except where the law or an open-source licence inside it says you may;
- work around a limit, or make the app believe in a purchase that was never made;
- use it against the law, or keep in it anything you have no right to keep.
Google Play’s part in this
This agreement is between you and us. Google is not a party to it, and Google Play is a shop rather than a guarantor. Worth saying plainly, because people write to the wrong address:
- Solera and everything in it are our responsibility, not Google’s.
- Support is ours too. Write to support@alps-project.online and a person answers. Google has no obligation to maintain or support the app.
- Any claim about the app — that it caused a loss, that it fails to meet a legal requirement, that it mishandled data, product liability, consumer protection — is ours to answer, not Google’s.
- If a third party claims Solera infringes their intellectual property, investigating, defending and settling that claim is ours to do.
- Buying, refunding and reinstalling happen under the Google Play Terms of Service, which apply to that alongside this page.
Questions, complaints and claims about Solera come to the address at the bottom of this page.
What is not promised
Solera is given to you as it is, and as it happens to be available. To the fullest extent the law allows, we do not promise it is free of error, that it will suit a purpose you have in mind, or that it will keep working forever.
Two things in particular are guesses and are drawn as guesses:
- The verdict. It is built from the bottles you rated and nothing else. It is a reading of your own history, not advice, and not a claim about how anything will taste. When it has not earned an opinion it says too early to guess, and that is honest rather than coy.
- The catalogue. It carries mistakes, as every wine catalogue does. Vintage, alcohol, grape, region, allergens, whether something suits a diet or a condition you have — read the bottle in your hand, not the app. Solera is a diary, not a label, and nothing in it is medical or dietary advice.
If something goes wrong
To the maximum extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, lost profit, lost data, or the loss of use of anything, arising out of the app. Where liability cannot be excluded at all, ours is limited to what you paid for Solera.
None of that touches liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — death or personal injury caused by negligence, or fraud — and none of it takes away the rights your own consumer law gives you.
Updates, and stopping
We may improve Solera, fix it, change it, or one day stop working on it. Some updates will be necessary for the app to keep running on a newer phone. We will try not to take away something you were relying on, but we cannot promise the app or the store behind it is always available.
You can stop whenever you like: delete the app, and that is the whole of it. We may end this licence if you break these terms seriously. The parts that should outlive the agreement — who owns what, what is not promised, the limits above, and the law below — do.
The law this runs under
Hong Kong law governs this agreement, leaving aside its rules about which law to choose, and the Hong Kong courts hear disputes about it. If the mandatory law where you live gives you the right to your own courts or your own law — and in the EU and the UK, for a consumer, it usually does — that right stands and this paragraph does not take it away.
Changes to these terms
These terms change when the app does. The current version and its date sit at the top of this page, and if a change matters the app says so in plain words rather than leaving it here to be found. Using Solera after a change takes effect means you accept it. If you do not, delete the app.
